An experiment in community building, the café served hot drinks and fish-themed baked goods in exchange for written or spoken stories about fish or water. The stories were available for browsing in the shanty and played on the K-ICE low wattage radio station. Over 500 stories were collected in 2006 and over 1000 in 2007. Collaboration with Jane Powers.
Named after the meetings of the fur trading voyageurs, the Rendezvous Café was part of the Art Shanty Projects 2006 & 2007. In the Art Shanty Projects, artists build structures inspired by the ice fishing shacks used in Minnesota. The project took place over 6 weeks in January and February on Medicine Lake in Plymouth, Minnesota.
